If u can’t judge a book by it’s cover, can u judge it by it’s TOC?!

We all have this special someone in our lives that we know everything about yet don’t really know anything at all. Someone we crush over and secretly fanaticize about but not necessarily have any real feelings for!

OH don’t look at me like that…you know exactly who I’m talking about. I call them “Our It” people. (Not to be confused with cousin IT from the Adams Family, waaaay to hairy for my taste!!)

“Our It” people; the prom king and queen, the cute elevator girl, the cute doctor who can’t seem to diagnose the condition we don’t really have!!
Common guys, admit it. We all have one of those people in our lives, we just occasionally suppress them when we are preoccupied with other viable prospects.

We never really talk to “Our It” people because we put them on such high pedestals and idolize them to a point where we forgot that they are actually normal people who pee and pass gas just like the rest of us
(sorry for the mental image guys. Just watched the episode of Sex and the City were Carry farts in front of Mr.Big in bed)!

Even though, we can never muster up the courage to talk to “Our It” people in person, we have this strange confidence that once we do actually establish contact that they were surely going to fall head over heals for our fabulous selves!

Well people, yours truly actually mustered up the courage to approach her “It person!

The cover of that book was ohhh so fine to say the least; attractive, catchy, juicy and very promising. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said about its content!!

I knew the book had mixed reviews and was deemed a bit too R rated for my taste, but I couldn’t resist picking it up anyways to find out for my self!

Idiot, unmotivated, shallow, sexist, party animal are some of the words that come to mind. I honestly think this dude doesn’t have any goals or aspirations that transcend exercising the muscle that doesn’t rhyme with train, which I assume is the only functioning one this dude has!!!!!!!!

Am I being harsh, nasty even bitchy? Maybe, but this yummy idiot ruined the vision I had of him in a few minutes. Why couldn’t he just shut up and look pretty?!!!

Have u ever watched a kick ass movie commercial and gotten really excited about it only to get really disappointed once you actually watched the movie. Maybe because the movie was shit or because you expected way too much that there was no way for it to live up to your expectations?? Well…that’s exactly how I felt!

They say “you can’t judge a book by its cover” mainly because covers can be misleading and depend on how well they are marketed!
Personally, I say why not? A book’s cover is chosen by its author to reflect what the book is all about, and if it’s too vague, it’s table of content could do the trick!

Having said that, every once in a while you get a book u can’t help but pick up and read along with to see what it’s all about. That’s what I have decided to do, so I am currently attempting to read that book, very slowly and not that often but hey, at least I’m trying to read it :)

So far, not that interested but I don’t think I’m ready to put it down yet and move on, at least not until I find a book more interesting to read ;)

So tell me:
1- Would you judge a book by it’s cover , explain why or why not?
2- If you were to choose a book cover for urself , what would it be?
3- What cover of books attracts you the most ?

Sometimes you cant help but judge a book by its cover i.e girls or guys with loud clothes you cant help but assume they are looking for attention and most probably you're right .
Even if you try really hard to be open minded about these sorts of things you cant help but judging . I guess at the end the key is not to let it affect the way you treat them .

Have you ever heard of the concept of the double bind?
It’s when you find yourself confronted by two conflicting commands, but are unable to comment on this conflict, and then you get spun into all kinds of crazy tailspins as a result. So basically The concept of the Double Bind is to demonstrate to people that things aren't all black and white.

Judging a book by it’s cover it an excellent example of a double bind.

Nowadays modern society says we have to be “politically correct” and not judge anyone by their appearance but at the same time that contradicts with the whole point of advertising which is what modern age in all about. Nowadays we live in media constructed societies... You are a marketing gal… I’m sure you know what I’m talking about/

The whole point of advertising is to train you to judge people (and yourself) by appearances. You’re taught to judge people according to how they look, what they wear, what they drive, what they listen to, where they hang out….

So there is no answer to your question… the answer depends on how adventurous you feel at that time….

It’s like shopping… sometimes you just wanna go to your favorite store because it’s comfortable and you know that you’ll find what you want... And sometimes you just want to be adventurous and go into that thrift store because sometimes you do find a diamond in the ruff…

tell me abt it.. was the same with a girl who i thght would be really intelligent. but turned out to b just too rich to care

1.bcuz tht damn cover has nothing to do with the actual story
2. prolly some scene from the book.. or some simple thing like a barbed wire...
3. with track n field, biological hazard signs, nazi swastikas, binary numbers with green background n ofc military equipment

My cover is carefully chosen. I dress, walk, and speak a certain way.

How else could you judge me?

I DO judge a book by its cover. I tend to go for the books that tell a story through it's imagery. I'm a very visual person, and if it's not visually exciting enough - I feel like the contents of it won't be either.

Good covers like...
Middlesex...The Red Tent...Veronica Decides to Die...

It's fun to look at the cover AGAIN, when you are done reading the book. You see the story in a whole different light.

Even though I consider myself an annoying 'lookist' I am usually attracted more to the content. I have chosen many covers in my life. They are all SO similar to each other that I think it has become a pattern with me since the very first book I owned.

I'm curious though, after s/he (your it) opened her/his mouth, did you stop seeing them pretty? Did it affect the way they look? :)

Metaphorically speaking, the things that attracts me most in books are "date of publication" and "title"..if you know what I mean.

Great post and topic!

Some times you don't really choose a book, you pick it up because you had to, and you don't expect anything from it.. until you actually open it up, and well, find yourself pleasently surprised.

Oh and I'm talking about book books.... I prefer to use the analogy of women to my hot chips... And there was a guy who would hang out with me from time to time.. And beside loving our hot chips; we had one phrase that we always mentioned... "I love my women like I love my chips: hot and spicy!" Heheheheh...

Hahah... And I know I'm never coming back here... So.. It was nice strolling along.. And knowing that there's a nice underground culture brewing up.. Just hope you keep your wits about when we open the roads for you.. Plus, I had a radical view of how to change the status of women.... Make all the police officers female... Though, I'm scared I have to revert my women analogy to bricks rather than hot chips... Oh how I love my hot chips... Plus my Arabic teacher used to say that "wara kul jarima imra2a" hehe... though I portray that to my GF as... "behind every great man.. is a great woman"... or whatever of that type.. I'm bored... Didn't sleep.. graduating soon.. and have to write a paper on Thomas Aquinas's Treatise of Human Nature.. Specifically on the human soul and its subsistence, or at least that's what I thought it would be on... either way can't wait to get that off my chest... and I'm failing my arabic "sh3r al 7adeeth" course... teachers not too convinced that 9:30 is too early... and.. hmm.. I'm flying back home on the 25th.. heard its freezing.. can't wait.. and no, I will never leave my people or my country in the dark... heheh. .and lets see... I know that it's tought, but I don't doubt it one bit that, with engaging and risk taking personas like yourselves existing.. there's always hope for a change to the better.. remember... our fathers and mothers will die... our kids never have to know how they used to live like or how they forced us to live like! .. Or how the neighbors' prying eyes and sabretoothed tongues forced us to do....
